We’ve been in “school” mode now for the past week, and little miss has been loving every minute of her two day a week, four hour, pre-school class. I like to say she’s living her best pre-school life…. getting herself dressed in the morning, helping me pick out her snacks, and packing up her lunch pail + backpack…
With this new change in our family, we needed to alter the way we went about our morning routine, and needed to pick up a few items to support Harper’s transition. Since we’ve always been a family that thrives on routine + structure, I tried my best to put together a system I felt would help us make this transition smoothly (or, as smoothly as possible when you have a toddler + newborn….) and to purchase products that would facilitate the process.
Naturally I was sure to shop Walmart for many of our back to school needs…. with free + fast shipping it made getting organized after our Hawaii trip so easy. They have so many clothing items that perfectly compliment Harper’s spunky personality (like this amazing leopard jacket, pom pom shoes, and these super casual + comfortable dresses)… and have the supplies we need for all the practical necessities. We picked up these colorful Bento Box containers to keep her snacks organized (much more efficient than multiple baggies), her favorite drinking thermos, and this adorable unicorn lunchpail. They also have a huge variety of Harper’s favorite snacks, which I fully approve of, so we were sure to stock up on all of those, which I’ve listed below in case you’re needing some easy snack ideas for your toddler…
SNACKS:
Annie’s Snack Variety Pack
Apple Slices
String Cheese
Bananas
Granola
Grapes
Pretzels
Dried Cranberries
Purely O’s
Oatmeal Raisin Bars
Bunny Grahams
After we had all the practical items we needed, I got to thinking about the morning routine and decided that Harper needed some special “pre” school activities that she could play with while I nurse Camille. In full disclosure, we tried some mellow television before summer camp and it was hard for her to make the transition from relaxing on the couch to heading out to camp. Given that, I decided we needed to come up with a good alternative and picked up these building/stacking blocks, Paw Patrol coloring kit, + crayons. Something super simple that we can incorporate into the below morning schedule…..
MORNING SCHEDULE:
5:45am: I wake up, get in a workout, and eat breakfast
7:15am: Harper wakes up
Harper gets dressed
Harper eats breakfast
7:30am: Camille wakes up + I nurse her
Harper picks out one of our pre-selected toys to play with while I nurse Camille
8:00am: Harper + I pick out her snacks to take to school
Harper packs her lunch pail + backpack
8:30am: Leave to drop Harper off for school
Back by 9am for Camille’s nap…..
I am certain that while we move further into the year that some of these routines will need to be altered, but for right now it seems to be working…. and I’m thankful that Walmart was an excellent one stop shop for all the necessities we needed to kick off the year successfully!
How do you prep for back to school? What’s your back to school routine?
