As I mentioned last week, TJ + I always like to refer to our life as a “beautiful mess.” A perfectly coined term from the top hit country song… things are messy, at times slightly chaotic, we get things wrong… but we also get things right, have beautiful moments amidst the chaos, and have learned (and are constantly working on) to embrace the wildness of life.
We’ve established rhythms and routines that help us move throughout the day in a somewhat predictable (dare I use that word as a parent to two little ones under 4?….) manner. Which has helped us to somewhat navigate this quarantined time. Over that past several days we’ve tried to create even more structure + routine to account for the changes going on around us. We go on walks, play outside… all the obvious options… and I thought I’d share them all here with you today in case you’re looking for some activities to do with the family during this time….
Before I get there though, all of our activities have involved some sort of loungewear, so I thought I’d chat about a few go-tos. I mentioned this comfy henley bralette (love the subtle tie-dye print) last month, and it’s so comfortable to wear as an everyday option, or under a cozy cardigan lounging at home… I love it paired with these incredibly soft and silky joggers (I’ve been sleeping + lounging in them non-stop). And since Jockey does such a great job of having items for the entire family, Harper decided that she wanted to “borrow” this soft rose colored tee as a sleep shirt for herself (she’s obsessed with sleeping in my tees) and loves these little bike shorts + bralettes… she told me that she is “twins” with me. The Jockey men’s selection is always great + these joggers were a hit with TJ, along with these everyday grey tees (he’s a huge fan of the fitted feel of the tees)…..
AT HOME ACTIVITIES FOR THE FAMILY
- Always an at home dance party. I think this is hands down Harper’s favorite. Camille even bobs to the music.
2. We have this tiny ball and play a game to see how many times each person can accurately kick it down the hallway (obviously there is nothing breakable in that particular space)
3. Puzzles. These are a huge hit in our home. When we want to make it a little more fun, we see who can finish their puzzle first, or make it into a team effort and see if we can beat our previous “puzzle assembly time” as a team.
4. Forts. It keeps Harper, and Camille, engaged for a long time! Especially when it’s right in the middle of the kitchen at dinner time.
5. Magnet tiles + seeing how many different objects we can build.
6. A big ol’ box. I save a couple of these in the garage for “rainy” days. It’s amazing how creative toddlers can get with a box. Makes me question every buying toys again….
7. Playing store with the dinner items we will need for that evening’s meal… gets Harper involved + we get to start on dinner….
8. I have a stash of “new” coloring books that I had saved for a rainy day… when it’s novel it’s engaging all over again.
9. Memory games are always a hit with our family.
10. Baking: Before we start dinner, we’ll bake an easy batch of cookies or brownies for dessert. One of Harper’s favorite activities….
11. Create an obstacle course outside for the entire family to participate in….
12. Playdoh… always a hit at our house….
13. Scavenger Hunt… the difficulty level can vary based on the age of the kiddo….
14. Family Picnic- if the weather is inclement outside, bring it inside… complete with a large blanket… eating on the floor… sometimes it’s these little things that get kiddos so excited!
Here’s to a weekend filled with family time in comfies!!
