Well it was cold here for a hot minute. Only a minute though. When we arrived home Friday evening we were greeted by a rainstorm, complete with thunder + lightening…. which continued well into the next day. It was glorious. Cool temps that warranted cozy clothes + a hot white tea from my favorite little coffee shop. The day just beckoned us to stay inside and get cozy. Yet we were celebrating TJ’s birthday that evening with my family, so the day did call for some quick errands (mainly to pick up balloons + ingredients for carrot cake… you know, real important things…)… which meant venturing out into the rain (for those of us in Southern California, we seem to think this is an all out event… since lately, it rarely occurs….)….
For days such as this, or hey, I’ll take days that are just cold, I always have my seasonal go-to’s. And this fall season isn’t any different. When I was sitting on the balcony in Hawaii (little miss was napping, TJ was at work), I decided to peruse Nordstrom’s Trend department for their fall weather items… knowing I’d have two days of cool temps upon our return, I wanted to take advantage of them. Their trend department carries some of my all time favorite brands (think Free People, Madewell, Spanx, etc…) and I can always count on it for a wide selection. Which is exactly what I did to create this season’s go-to, everyday casual, outfit….. I compiled my four criteria for making this outfit comfortable, casual, and chic below…..
1. Perfect Fitting Leggings: For the past several years (okay, five) I’ve been wearing these high waisted everyday leggings and still love them to this day. Yet, this season I decided to finally cave in and give the Spanx Faux Leather High Waisted leggings a try (maternity option for those further along than me….). Oh my. I’ve been missing out. They fit like a dream, hug in all the right places, and they’re so comfortable. I love that they’re perfect for everyday life but can easily be dressed up in so many different ways.
2. A Basic Tee: A basic tee is always a must in my book. It’s a great piece to layer under coats, cardigans, and jackets in the fall months. I always want my first layer to be cute so that when I remove my coat I still look presentable. I own this one in white, but snagged it in the black this season. It’s soft, v-neck, and hangs nicely on the body. The Madewell Whisper Cotton Tee is one of my favorites, and it doesn’t disappoint in the long sleeve version either… and this Free People long sleeve top is another great layering option.
3. A Cozy Coat: It’s a necessity to keep you warm… and, cozy. When I saw this soft pea-coat it reminded me of a longer coat I bought last fall/winter that I wore all the time. It feels like I’m being wrapped up in a cloud and the button details are super cute. I also think this shorter faux fur jacket (in the brown) and this plaid + faux fur lined coat are both excellent options that will keep you looking good and feeling toasty.
4. Comfy Kicks: Always. I mean, what good is a comfortable outfit with uncomfortable shoes to get you from point A to B?? Tretorn is hands down one of my favorite shoe brands. I’ve never put on a pair that didn’t feel like I was walking on clouds. These leopard beauties don’t disappoint… and add the perfect pattern to an otherwise neutral outfit.
That’s it… basic + simple, yet comfortable. Stay cozy this fall friends!…..
