You know the saying that “Some things never change?” Well, never has that been proven to me more than this past weekend…. but to set it up I feel as if I must put this into context…
Growing up my mom would always tell me to “slow down…” in just about everything. Example? A careless mistake on a test… 90% of the time was due to me rushing through it. I feel as if I’m always in perpetual motion, something I’m truly working on… and while it often lends itself to checking off everything on my to-do list by the end of the week, it also often lends itself to avoidable mistakes/accidents (again, working on it, I promise).
So, this past weekend when I tossed on this comfy ribbed olive green hoodie, it still had the tag on it. Instead of taking an extra 30 seconds to take the sweatshirt off and cut the tag off, I decided to be “super efficient” and just pull the tag to my chin and cut it off with scissors. The moment I made the cut, I knew it was a mistake. I heard that noise you hear at the hair salon. You know, that crisp sound of sharp scissors cutting through hair (it’s a very distinct sound…). At first I didn’t see the 4 inch clump of hair, but as I ran my hands through my hair both the tag, and the hair, ended up in my hand.
Needless to say, it was a major lesson. Take the extra 30 seconds to do something right the first time. A lesson that I’m still learning at 37 years old.
