Everyday Style || Just A Number…

When I first started blogging a trending hashtag was #DressingRoomDiaries. Essentially, people would go into dressing rooms and basically take photos of themselves wearing the clothes and give their reviews (not much different than what goes on over in instagram stories these days…). Yet, when I think of the concept of dressing room diaries, the thoughts we have about how we look in the clothes… or how we perceive our bodies… comes to mind. We’ve all been there… whether it’s jean shopping… bathing suit shopping (I still reserve that task for on-line purchases + at home try ons….) … or looking for an item for a special occasion… and I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the majority, if not all, of us have had some sort of negative thought in those poorly lit, riddled with terrible mirrors, dressing rooms….

Yet, since having Harper, my perspective has changed… even more so after Camille’s birth. I know I already shared the message I want to convey to them about body image in an earlier post… but what I’ve given up on over the past several years is the number on the tag. Years ago, I might have loved a pair of jeans but opted not to purchase them because I needed a larger size… even if my body was still the same, the brand just might have run a tad smaller. It’s quite ridiculous when I look back on it… yet I know I’m not alone. After having Harper I realized that so much of the female body changes, and it has absolutely nothing to do with weight. I can hands down tell you that my hips are wider after this pregnancy with Camille, my rib cage expanded after my pregnancy with Harper (and never went back), and my chest is two sizes bigger thanks to nursing boobs (I’m likely the only woman on the planet who prefers a flat chest…). So when it came to dressing postpartum this time around I decided it wasn’t going to matter what the tag on the clothes read… It’s just a number that doesn’t define who I am, how I feel, or how I truly even look in the clothes….

If it feels good on the body, it’s a go in my book….. like these great Everlane basics I’m wearing today. I had to size up in every single piece that I am wearing (I actually had to send the jeans back for a bigger size) and that’s ok. I love the low back scoop of the bodysuit (perfect for everyday wear and great for a night out….) and the high waist fit of the jeans… and this is my second pair of The Day heels… and let me tell you, they’re comfortable enough to wear all day long (and a great option for an office setting). I also have this great basic v-neck tee which could easily be paired with these jeans + a slide for a casual daytime look.

And lately, when I’m wanting to dress up my basics, I’ve been tossing in a super cute hair accessory (also helps to make hair,  way past due date for a wash, look presentable). Some favorites include this pearl clip, leaf clip, and this headband.

 Here’s to a kinder dressing room diaries chat friends….
