Everyday Style || Dresses + Sneakers

Life is funny how it always comes full circle. I used to be the little girl who would give my parents a hard time getting ready in the morning… I’d insist on wearing shorts in the middle of winter (so we compromised on tights worn under the shorts), white cowboy boots the first day of kindergarten (my mom ended up having to bring me a change of shoes mid-day), and the endless “I have nothing to wear” comments despite that being a very untrue fact…

So I guess I shouldn’t have been all that surprised when yesterday morning Harper decided she didn’t want to wear anything in her drawers. Nothing. We sat in a stand off for a good five minutes before I let her know that when Alexa (yes, I brought in Alexa to help me co-parent) says “time’s up” she needed to have an outfit picked out (at this point, I didn’t care what it was…). Time was up, and still nothing, so I gave the ultimate ultimatum. I pulled out a pair of pants, told her that if she didn’t put them on she’d go to pre-school “as is” (which meant with a shirt + underwear on). She still refused, so into the carseat she went with just a t-shirt + underwear. Not calmly.

I took some deep breaths on the way to dropping her off + by the time we pulled up she’d calmed down. We said a small prayer for a better day ahead, put her pants + shoes on, gave each other a hug, and off she went….

I mean, you get the child you were, right??

All that rambling aside… I couldn’t be happier it’s Friday. I’m heading up to meet TJ in Napa (he was there for work last night) for 24 hours (as part of his work trip). My parents will be watching the girls… and we will have 24 hours of adult time… wondering how many wine tasting rooms we can squeeze in??

When we come home, we’ll be welcomed by California’s annual winter heat wave…. which always has us pulling out sleeveless pieces…. dresses, tees, shorts, etc….. So when I saw this polka dot dress, I thought it would be a perfect “in between” dress. Great for those warm winter (#oxymoron) days + then paired with a leather jacket it’s perfect for the cooler spring days as well (California has its seasons mixed up….). Anyway, back to the dress. It flows nicely, is lined, and I think it would be great for just about any occasion…. a shower, church, lunch, brunch, date night, girl’s getaway… you name it. Just switch up the accessories and it’s versatile enough for just about anything. One of my favorite ways to wear it is with this black pullover… it creates a super casual, effortless, look (see here for styling inspo).

And with that, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend ahead!
