The other day I received an e-mail asking me about alternatives to wearing sweatpants daily. It was meant to be both serious, and funny. I mean, wearing sweatpants day in and day out sounds quite comfortable. Feasible? Not so much. I didn’t have to think long before I answered that my key to looking pulled together, yet still remaining casual, really only relied on a few simple pieces and one easy formula (last featured here): Always have 3 pieces + you can never go wrong with a basic white tee and distressed jeans….
1. A white tee: A casual white tee is pretty much a staple every woman should own…. it crosses all seasons (forget the white after Labor Day rule), is an excellent layering option, and exudes the casual-chic-comfort trifecta. My go to white tees include this long sleeve crew neck, simple white tank, comfortable thermal, and oversized white tee. Plus, when you’re in a hurry, you can never go wrong grabbing one of your go-tos.
2. Distressed jeans: Aside from leggings, I own way too many distressed jeans (#obsession)…. yet, there’s a method to my madness. You see, they are usually my most worn in pair, and so they are almost the equivalent to sweat pants. Yet, they’re denim, so pretty much appropriate for any casual occasion. Aside from this pair that I wear 24/7, I own this pair and they are super soft (I’ve owned them for years)…. and also have my eye on these (love the zippers).
3. Stylish Kicks: It’s no secret I love a great pair of sneakers. If they aren’t athletic, they’re pretty much great with anything…. a dress, jeans, leggings, etc. I’m loving the platform trend right now, and these kicks are pretty amazing. The platform gives me the few extra inches I always wish I had (I’m only 5’1), and the blush color is pretty much a neutral in my book. Not into the platform trend? My other favorites include these white kicks (I’ve almost worn them into the ground) and my flashback cortez pair.
4. The Accessory: As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’m a firm believer in that third piece to pull it all together. For fall, Nordstrom has so many great options. I snagged this chunky fringe wrap and I am pretty much obsessed with it at the moment. Another option I love is a belt. My favorite for fall is this hip belt that I wear when I’m looking for something to dress up a simple front tuck. I also love a cute beanie as an everyday option…it’s great for hiding unwashed hair, or just adding a cute little touch. I recently purchased this pom one for my early morning walks.
So there you have it! My simple alternative to sweatpants.
