Date Night || Backyard Movie Night

While most of California is on it’s way to opening up, TJ + I have yet to venture out for our first date night (out) or really gone anywhere other than the beach (in the evening) for a picnic with the girls (it’s a secluded cove that is never crowded). We’re considering some fun road trips + staying in rental properties, but for the foreseeable future, we’ll be at home.

Given that, we’re still getting creative over here with ways that we can change things up a bit and still have the best summer ever. So the other night we decided to have a date night outside… and opted to try our hand at an outdoor movie night. I was initially skeptical and thought it would be difficult to set up. It wasn’t…

All you need is a projector (we were super happy with this one), a way to stream your movie (we used the Fire Stick since you can stream just about anything using it…), an echo dot to amplify the sound (the projector has decent sound, but we didn’t want to strain the hear it), and a screen. The screen was the most challenging part for us, only because I thought that this stand came with a screen (it didn’t…) so we had to get creative with the sheet (which, isn’t really creative at all, because a lot of people use that option…). Painter’s tarp (in white) was also suggested as an alternative to the bedsheet we used.

We placed our patio chairs on the grass to make the space comfortable, tossed out a few throw blankets + pillows, poured an adult beverage, and it was even more comfortable than heading to the movie theater. What I love about the idea of a backyard movie night is that you can customize the snacks to your liking… popcorn, ice cream, wine, cocktail… it’s all at your disposal with just the push of a button (literally, just press pause and you won’t miss a single minute….).

If you want to make this date night particularly special for you and your SO, pick a movie that reminds you of your early dating days… a special bottle of wine… and pick up some of his (or her) favorite “treats.”

This is also such a fun summer activity for the entire family and we can’t wait to have Harper join us in the next couple of weeks.

So while this summer looks a little different for all of us, there isn’t any reason why it can’t be just as fun!
