Be Happy #4!

future self

Me and quotes. I saw this the other day and couldn’t help but feel inspired! Everyday we essentially make a choice to either 1. make good choices for our future or 2. make choices that may actually hinder our future self (example: I could sit here and watch this monotonous television show or I could go for a bike ride). In my work, and in my personal life, I have found that those who are happiest often have goals. These goals can be big or small, short term or long term. They may be for themselves, company, or family. Either way you slice it, there is some positive future vision and something to constantly be working towards (I’m not discounting being present in the moment though!). So often in life we get stuck in a rut. Wishing we could do something, be something, or change something. Happy people have this problem too, but I argue, happy people do something about it! They set a goal and make choices, daily, to move them closer to that goal. Working towards that goal (whether big or small) helps them to feel accomplished and empowered in their own lives. When you’re working towards a goal, there isn’t much time to “hem” and “haw” about what isn’t going right because you are essentially taking charge of your life.

So, back to the quote. When you wake up, ask yourself, what can I do today that my future self will thank me for? What steps can I take, today, big or small, that will move me closer to the desired goal? Just remember,  when we dream big, our minds become accustomed to being in a positive and focused state! I don’t know about you, but that’s the state I want to be in!

(stay tuned for more on goal setting!)
