In preparation for this past weekend’s trip up to San Francisco, a rare thing occurred. I did not overpack. Yes, you read that right. When the lady at the check-in counter asked if any of the bags were “potentially overweight,” I was able to confidently (and proudly I might add) state,”No.” Now, don’t get me wrong, the temptation was there. There were numerous text messages sent to Allison about this dilemma. I had under packing phobia. Maybe another term could be options-phobia: the intense, and often irrational fear, that one will not have enough options. If it was in the DSM, I’d likely qualify.
How did I do it? I went back to the basics (isn’t that what you’re supposed to do when you don’t know what else to do??). I packed neutral colored sweaters (chunky knit and lightweight), tops, shoes, and denim and threw in fun accessories (aka blanket scarf). I figured I would just rely on my abilities to mix and match. The perfect anecdote to options-phobia.
