As I wrote on Friday, the “Great Closet Purge” of 2015 happened last week (on a Wednesday to be exact). I was fed up. My closet was full of items I simply wasn’t wearing, or wasn’t planning on wearing. As I went to town, pulling clothes off the hangers left and right (it wasn’t a particularly stressful day, but this would have been extremely cathartic had it been…), I realized a pattern. Solids and classic pieces were making the cut while more “I’ll try it out and make it work,” pieces were getting the boot (along with pieces I was able to date back to my college years… PEOPLE, this was 9 YEARS ago!!! What is wrong with me?!?!) Don’t get me wrong, some of those pieces stayed, because I was able to make them work…. but it became blazingly clear to me that the old motto of “keep it simple stupid (not that I am calling myself or anyone else for that matter stupid….)” might actually have real merit.
I wore this to a baby shower this past weekend… and as I packed to head down to San Diego, I did just what my closet epiphany had revealed to me… I kept it simple. Real simple. I packed one top (this one) to go with two options. And given my raging love affair of denim on denim, it was only natural that this became the ensemble for the afternoon (although, I must admit, I shed a tear when I purchased this classic skirt, I mean, WHY, WHY! did I give away my oh-so-similar Von Dutch one in the last closet purge??!… which mind you was likely when I got married… 5 years ago…).
AND, on my last side note… did anyone else LOVE Von Dutch? Well, maybe not LOVE, but don’t you remember those heinous trucker hats???….
