I remember running the track in high school. That boring, daunting track. One lap felt like an hour, and I was always so perplexed by those people who could run a lap in some crazy time like 1:30. Even though I actually did track and field (though definitely none of the distance events…more like 100 yard dash and long & triple jumps), I could never actually bring myself to enjoy being on the track. I was just so painfully BORED by it. Running (not sprinting, actual running) has always been a challenge for me for a variety of reasons: the first of which being endurance. I don’t have much of it. The second of which being the pure monotony of it. Before I realized how therapeutic it can be, I always thought running anywhere was boring, ESPECIALLY around and around a track, where the view never changes, and it’s very easy to lose count….which, when that happens, the entire workout almost loses its purpose (or that may just be my anti-track running mentality). However, when I started sprinting a lot more after starting this boot camp, I wanted to be able to do it on my own, but using a very measurable, calculated distance, and on the most forgiving terrain possible. So I made the completely hypocritical decision and took my workouts to the track. However, I switched it up a bit and added some active recovery stuff, so hopefully you are as un-bored at the track as I am!
