This past weekend it rained everyday. It started unexpectedly Friday afternoon, and then continued through Sunday. I’m not complaining, since I love a good rainy weekend (it’s an excuse to be lazy and stay in all weekend long watching Christmas movies with the family…)… and it’s always pretty spectacular to look up at the local mountains and see them covered in snow (which just beckons us to pay them a visit)….
Yet, after a weekend spent hibernating inside, I’m always itching to get out and explore a little. We’ll be heading to Scottsdale this coming weekend, but I always have a list of fun “winter” activities I want to do with our little family. Maybe it’s a “Winter Bucket List” or maybe it’s just a wishlist of activities I want us to do together during the cold weather season, but call it what you will, I intend on getting through a few of them this season. Included in my short list are as follows:
Head up to our cabin in the local mountains for a day of snow fun… build a snowman, go sledding (or inner tubing), have a fun snowball fight….
Take Harper outside for some good old fashioned puddle jumping (she did this the other day, and I can’t tell you how excited she was. Something about toddlers + puddlers makes for a good time….)
Enjoy the crisp + cool temperatures + head out for a family hike along our favorite beachside trail
Have a wintery campfire evening in our backyard… hot coco, s’mores by the fire-pit, and festive cocktails for mom + dad
Take the family to an outdoor ice skating rink
And for all my outdoor ideas, we need outerwear to keep us warm and cozy. For that, I turn to The North Face, a brand that’s been in our family since I was in high school (…. 18 years ago…. what??). For this season, we picked up some family jackets. The quality is superior, keeps us incredibly warm, + I love how lightweight the jackets are (they don’t feel bulky at all). They have so many great options for every member of your family. I picked up this faux fur hooded jacket… love the color (it’s neutral without being black, grey, or white), the double zip + button closure, as well as the faux fur hood (my favorite aesthetic about the jacket). TJ’s last winter jacket we bought was a North Face, nine years ago, and he still wears it to this day… he loves this two toned jacket + how easily he can layer underneath it. I picked up this adorable reversible jacket for Harper … the fact that it’s reversible sold me, since it’s essentially a two for one (soft silken fleece on the interior). Camille wore this thermoball coat during our trip to Park City + it actually fit in her carseat (not easy to do with baby outerwear).
A few other The North Face favorites we’ve acquired over the years include this white puffer vest (for me… love tossing it on for a morning run, or just wearing it for errands), black thermoball vest (I bought this for TJ for Christmas several years ago… lightweight + he wears it all the time), and this backpack, which we take on our hikes with waters, snacks, and various other necessities. If you live in a snowy climate, I love this thermoball bunting for a baby.
So, whether or not I cross off everything, or just a few activities, at least I know the entire family will be warm and ready for whatever adventure lies ahead!
