Last Tuesday, the first day of summer, I actually didn’t wear my favorite cut-offs (well, I take that back, when I got home, I immediately changed into them….). I headed down to the beach for a little girl time, lite bites, and a little shopping. I was feeling excited for summer, and decided that my tried and true cut-offs and slides deserved a few hours off (they’ve been working overtime as of late….). I knew I wanted to wear something fun, but not too dressy. So, I reached for this fun little ruffle skirt. A little bit of color and a front knotted tee made it casual, yet pulled together at the same time….

I love skirts as an alternative to dresses for so many reasons. For one, I find them to be a little more versatile, since you can change the feel of it by the top you choose to pair it with. A cotton tee, front knotted, lands it in the more casual category. Yet, a silk blouse, tucked in, makes it dressy enough for work, cocktail hour, or even a fancy date night out. And while it’s not casual enough to be considered an everyday piece in my book, I think every gal should have a go-to skirt for summer… something fun, that when she puts it on screams, “I’m up for a good time!”

A few other favorite skirts for summer include this gingham option (I actually bought the little crop top that goes with it and have been pairing it with those tried and true cut-offs) which would be super cute with the tank from today and casual kicks. I’m off to meet up with TJ in Vegas, this afternoon, for a couple of nights, and little miss is headed to hang with my sister and parents.
