Red meat has a pretty bad reputation for a variety of reasons. Whether it’s for its high fat content, animal rights violations, etc., red meat in particular seems to be pretty highly frowned upon by many. However, I grew up a meat eater, and while I completely understand these perspectives (with lots of friends who hold them), I just don’t think I can bring myself to give it up! However, I have found that there are ways to eat this way, while being as environmentally friendly as possible, as well as healthy and nutritious. The secret: bison!! In comparison to beef, which comes in at 10 grams of fat per serving, bison has only 2.5 g, AND it has more iron Vitamin B-12!
With these nutrition facts in mind, I decided to whip up some bison burgers on Friday night. After a long week of hard work, my indulgence was a juicy, [albeit healthy!] burger!
I like my burgers simple: tomatoes, lettuce, and my homemade garlic aioli.
This aioli adds just the right amount of extra flavor and tang, especially if you aren’t adding cheese.
The finished product!! I almost didn’t want to eat it! But with only about 350 calories, I couldn’t wait to indulge in this alternative red meat!
