When my younger sister was getting married this past summer, TJ and I went out to lunch with her right before the bachelorette party (we affectionately called our little trio the “3 BFFs”). We were chatting about marriage, and both told her that over the years, the two of them will change, to change together, and to embrace it…. I mean, the only certainty in life is change…. so, while we can resist it, it’s inevitable. All that to say, this past weekend TJ and I were comically listing the ways we have changed…..
1. Bedtime: We now race into bed by 9:30pm…. we used to go out at 9:30pm…. and come home at 2am… now, if we have a wake up at 2am, it’s from a little munchkin in the room next door.
2. Beverages: Um, 14 years ago, white zin was our rosé of choice. Enough said.
3. Style: Welllll, TJ always had great style, buuuut was just a little rough around the edges. I remember on one of our first shopping trips together, he fell in love with a bootcut pair of 7 For All Mankind jeans (in fact he just gave them away) and he was sold. Over the years, he’s refined his style. He likes pieces, as do I, that he can wear dressed up, or down, and in several different ways. His favorite denim fits like a glove and in darker washes easily transitions to a business casual meeting. He opts for slim fitting dress shirts, like this patterned one, that easily transitions between seasons (paired with shorts in the summer), and occasions (date night, business casual work meeting, or even paired with sneakers for a casual date day). A few other favorite tops include this slim fit henley, 7 Diamonds shirts (favorite from the line), and James Perse basic tees. Nordstrom was, and continues to be, his go to for his evolving style since they literally have items for all ages, occasions, and styles.
4. Arguments: They used to be able to last as long as we wanted…. now? We don’t have time for long arguments, we need each other to survive parenthood. #Kidding #SortOf
5. Dates: We used to head out with elaborate plans, that lasted hours upon end. Now, morning dates are our jam, and if we do an evening date, we prefer to be back home by 8 so we can resume our cozy spots on the couch, joggers for TJ + myself, and a glass of vino in hand. #WereWild
And, while I say this all with a comical tone, I seriously wouldn’t have it any other way…. because, when we embrace change, it can sometimes lead to some of the best parts of life.
