If there is one thing I loved from this past trip, it was the simplicity of my beauty routine. I wore make-up once (on an evening when we took family photos), and took a curling iron to my hair minimally. We took the mentality that this trip would be completely rest and relaxation, so that meant evenings were spent relatively low-key, heading out for a happy hour drink, but then settling back in at the hotel to BBQ and just hang out. I opted for simple outfits, a bare face (literally not one ounce of make-up), and air dried hair touched up with a curling iron on a nightly basis.
I loved this dress so much (a perfect throw-on-and-go option for anywhere), that as we were all watching the sunset, TJ snapped some pictures… at one point I mentioned that I wouldn’t use these because I wasn’t wearing any makeup. To which my mom replied, “Who cares, you don’t always have to.” And so this post was born, and I was reminded that beauty is derived from the inside, with the outside being a mere representation of the true person. I won’t ever be a person to toss out my make-up and do nothing with my hair… I actually enjoy that process. Yet, what this vacation, and my mom’s statement reminded me of, is that sometimes au natural is the best, and most liberating option… and to be honest, my hair needed the break and my skin felt refreshed after the little beauty routine hiatus.
