Lady in Red… an homage to an old favorite

red dress, suede over the knee boots

As the song goes, so does the title of this post… “Lady in Red…” In high school I had this red prom dress. It was right around the time when the full on tulle skirt with corset top was no longer acceptable to wear. It was a fire engine red sheath dress. I loved it. I even brought it to college and wore it to a sorority formal. But that was the extent of the dress. You know how when you are a child you wonder if your toys are really alive. As if when you walk out of the room, they somehow have their own society (yes, I know, this was the premise for Toy Story…)?? Well, admittedly, I wonder that about my clothes sometimes. Like, when I go on a vacation, is that dress sad it didn’t “make the cut??” Are those shoes just dying to head out the door to work with me?? Do they fight over who gets to go out on date night?? Yeah, I know it’s not real, but I actually felt bad that the dress had a shelf life of two outings. When my mom asked me if I wanted her to give it away a year ago I purposefully avoided the question. Was I really ready to part with it? Then logic set in. I would only be perpetuating the dress’ lonely feelings. I mean, come on now, where was I going to wear it now? I tried to justify the whole “dressy-casual” trend, denim jacket with a formal dress but it just wasn’t going to work for me. So, away it went (I hope it wasn’t too sad….). Naturally, when I saw this red dress at J. Crew a few months back, I felt it would be a terrible injustice not to buy it in homage of the “little red dress.” Their similarities stop at color though. You see, this dress is oh so versatile. Date nights, work functions, church, brunches… the options really are limitless. No tears for this dress here 🙂

On another note, maybe slightly more reality based. It’s Friday. Need I say more?? Enjoy the weekend everyone!
