The Top-Coat

leather shorts

Since Southern California has decided to hold onto summer a little longer, this coat is my compromise. This evening, Allison and I went to sunset cocktails with a fellow blogger and California transplant Kathleen and the conversation naturally turned to California weather and how it can’t seem to make up its mind.  Case in point? Ok, well take the fact that it was in the high 90’s today (not the best day to wear a silk blouse to an outside session with a client…) and on Saturday it is supposed to be “drizzly” and in the mid 70’s (this is borderline parka weather for us native Californians). If the weather wants to straddle both sides, then I guess my wardrobe must too. I have nicknamed this jacket the “top-coat.” The sleeves are  not exactly short enough to qualify as a top, but not long enough to be considered a full blown pea-coat. You see, I use rationalization to justify many choices, including this one 🙂

  1. i really love that “top-coat”, it is such a great layering piece. i always hate how in winter you have to put a coat over everything and you end up losing the rest of the outfit underneath so i love how you could pair a striped top or something under that and it would still peek out!
