Faux Fur

IMG_8212

The Great Gatsby was by far and away one of my all time favorite books when I was in high school. I loved the glitz and glam of the era: feathers, sequins, fur, red lipstick, champagne (well secretively, I mean it was the prohibition era) was completely acceptable on a regular, and daily, basis. In college, I remember dressing up one Halloween as a “flapper” (I guess that’s what it was called) and literally fell in LOVE with the costume. I rented the coveted piece from a local vintage costume store (Gasoline Ally), which frequently allowed you to purchase the pieces you just couldn’t part with. The costume was an all white ensemble, white sequins on top and feathers filling out the skirt. It felt luxurious, flirty, and sassy all at once and I loved every second I was wearing it! If I recall correctly, I was literally near tears when the owner informed me that she wasn’t willing to sell the piece…  despite her resistance, I went back yearly and always asked about it. Naturally, when I saw this faux fur vest, it took me right back to the era that I should have grown up! It immediately reminded me of that favorite costume (which I paired with a faux fur coat) and I knew I could pair it with multiple outfits…. Maybe it could help me to vicariously live out my longing for the Roaring 20’s. Either way, you’ll be seeing it a lot!

[…] February is here, and so is my love for all things pink, red, and hearts. Call it cliche, but I love it all. And when I mean I love it all, I mean that I even love wearing more pink and red at this time. I vividly remember when I was in middle school and I saw this pair of keds sneakers in YM (anyone remember that magazine??…). They were white with pink and red hearts. I just HAD to have them (I know, I say that about a lot of things). So, my fabulous mom went on the hunt for them (the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, right?) and surprised me with them when I came home from school that afternoon. While I likely only wore them a handful of times, deep down I secretly wish I still had them (tear). And so, since I sadly no longer possess them, I have opted to pull off the pink and red in slightly more sophisticated avenues, hence this dusty rose pleated skirt (last seen here). […]
