Do Something New!

Our family is notorious for our [almost] annual trips to Hawaii. We take with us a motto (coined by our dad) of NA: No Agenda. It’s a relaxing week of sunbathing and sipping cocktails poolside. However, it came time last year to switch up our vacation routine and venture up north to Yosemite, a trip our mom had been dying to do since we were children. A bit reluctantly, we agreed to forgo our tropical vacation for pine trees and incredible mountainside scenery.

It turns out that taking a new type of vacation was a heck of an experience. It was physically challenging and rewarding, and we saw sights and accomplished things we never thought we would. Which brings me to the theme of this post: do something new everyday. Yes, you read that right…EVERYDAY!

Obviously, no one can take different vacations everyday, but this can so easily be modified to acommodate everyday life. For example, find a new trail/park nearby and go for a walk and explore the scenery. Try a new recipe for dinner tonight. Take a different route to work tomorrow.  It’s that easy! Studies even show that doing new and different things keeps your mind young and fresh and can fight off degenerative diseases later in life. Plus, it just makes life more fun and interesting! So take the challenge and try something new today…and everyday!
